"A fresh, engaging take on an established genre..."

"A great balance of action, character and intrigue."

About the Series

A genre-bending story of the American West for the "Game of Thrones" generation

A serialized drama depicting politics, power, sex, and violence in the American West in a manner never before undertaken in film or television – uniquely Indian.  Born with mystical curly brown hair, Crazy Horse has spent his entire life denying his mythic destiny as the savior of his people.  But facing the impact of White expansion and invasion, he is left with no alternative but to break his reluctance and embrace his fate.  Now, caught in the web of intrigue spun by the great chiefs and savvy women who broker power, Crazy Horse must navigate tribal politics, influence, and romance during the bloody struggle for the Great Plains in an epic battle to salvage a dying existence.  Against this backdrop, Buffalo Nation explores the nobility, intrigue, savagery, romance, and mysticism inherent in Crazy Horse’s world as the Lakota strive to maintain their dominance of the Great Plains.

This is not a “Western,” which places great stock in the 'freedom' afforded by the chaos/lack of structure and general lawlessness of the “Old West.” Instead, Buffalo Nation recognizes – and dramatizes –the clearly defined societal roles and hierarchies  the Lakota honored for generations.  As we join our story, the depiction of the Great Plains are explored through the point of view of a long-standing culture forced to conform or change if it wants to exist.  It is at this point where the story of Buffalo Nation is both familiar yet uniquely dynamic.

An “American” Tale Not Yet Told…

In 1894, Thomas Edison’s new invention, the kinescope, focused on a group of Lakota native dancers as they performed their “Buffalo Dance” and “Sioux Ghost Dance.” These mere 46 seconds of film - combining the novelty of “movies” with the mystery of “American Indians” -- enthralled audiences and the film industry was born.  In the century that followed, American Indians, and the Lakota “Sioux” in particular, have been relegated to set dressing, plot points, and antagonists in the industry they helped launch. Buffalo Nation breaks that mold by finally providing depth and insight into a culture and society that, just over 150 years ago, dominated six states in an area that is a two-hour plane ride from anywhere in the United States.
